  I was embarrassed about the blue smoke pulling away from traffic lights so I reluctantly went ahead and bought some from their importer in Felixstowe. The lady there (Roz? 01394 675317) was very helpful and sold me an engine flush and a small can of their magic juice. I added the juice and did 625 miles to Antwerp and back and I am amazed to say my Volvo is now running very smoothly at 70mph, and the blue smoke has completely gone. I am a natural sceptic about additives but I am truly amazed: my car has never done better than 38mpg since i got it, but I filled up in Antwerp and again at the local Morrisons and calculated my mpg for the return trip at 47mpg on the 310 mile return trip, all at motorway speeds through Belgium, France and back from Dover to Colchester, and I didn't need to add any oil when I got home. (Volvo 1.8 petrol injection, non-turbo, 4 cylinder 100,000 miles on the odometer). Amazing stuff.

• Ametechs remetallizing oil worked wonders for me

  I have always been very sceptical of so-called snake oils and oil additives, but the love of my life failed the MOT last year (no not the wife - my lovely T5 Volvo) and was going to cost £2500 for a rebore and new rings and pistons. Anyway the MOT mechanic saw me crying in my soup so he told me to try a can of Ametech. I googled them and found their location in the Technology Centre in Framlingham. I'm not far away so I poodled up there and bought a £40 litre can from the very helpful receptionist. She was not directly connected with Ametech (there are 50+ co's there) but said they have all used it and was very encouraging. I poured half a can in and drove back to Ipswich and blow me down it stopped smoking by the time I got home (30 miles). It passed the MOT the next day. I was absolutely gobsmacked. A year & 8,000 miles later the car starts easier and now produces tyre spinning power, 35mpg and has just passed the MOT with an unbelieveable emissions (at .01% CO). Get some. Amazing.
